MR: Medical Representatives

MR ─ Establishing relationships of trust

Medical representatives (MRs) provide, gather and transmit information designed to promote proper drug use.

MRs can be best described as "drug therapy partners" to healthcare professionals and patients. At KYORIN Pharmaceutical, our activities are focused on the three areas that are closely related to our products, namely respiratory internal medicine, otorhinolaryngology, and urology. To establish an organization that can accurately identify the needs of medical professionals and to quickly meet those needs, we have introduced a team system where a number of MRs take charge of a certain area. While the system maintains a respect for the will of each individual, members also think together as a team and strive to achieve the overall goals of their team.

It's the personality of each individual that utilizes information

Accurate, in-depth information and knowledge in one's area of specialty enable an MR to provide detailed information and earn the trust of medical professionals. The accumulation of those experiences builds confidence and leads to growth as a more appealing and trusted MR. Information is the lifeblood of an MR, but what utilizes that information and builds relationships of trust with medical professionals is the character of each individual.

Teamwork that comes from a harmony between individual qualities

It has been more than ten years since we introduced the team system, and the establishment of systems for coordination and cooperation between MRs has proven to be a significant strength for Kyorin. Even when faced with work entailing heavy responsibility or which sometimes gets quite lonely, if MRs are able to share their ups and downs with their co-workers they can make an effort while retaining a positive attitude. While our MRs are recognized for their diligence, they are also often described as having rich individuality and creativity. By respecting the personality of each member and trusting one another, exceptional teamwork is born.

MR ─ Responding to a variety of needs

Promptly providing the wide range information required by medical professionals and the information that supports patients

Kyorin's MRs carry their notebook computers with them wherever they go. This enables them to respond the diverse information needs of medical professionals, such as product information, the literature and academic information from overseas, without delay. Moreover, knowledge of the drugs that patients require and treatment information that is useful to patients is also provided via medical professionals. Kyorin's MRs also gather information on the quality of the launched drugs, their efficacy and safety in accordance with GQP, GVP and GPSP ordinances.

  • GQP: Short for Good Quality Practice. Quality control standards.
  • GVP: Short for Good Vigilance Practice. Post-marketing safety control standards.
  • GPSP: Short for Good Post-marketing Study Practice. Standards for implementing post-marketing studies and tests.
The seriousness and diligence of trying to fulfill responsibilities

Dr. Yūichirō Saitō, Director of the Saito Clinic Seriousness and diligence are qualities that all of Kyorin's MRs share. This means frequently visiting the scene of medical practice and always providing highly useful information with a sincere attitude. MRs are also required to study diligently on a regular basis to pass the knowledge confirmation tests on medicine and pharmaceuticals that Kyorin regularly conducts internally. Moreover, it is essential for MRs to collect the latest information and conduct information exchanges both inside and outside the company. Junior employees each become aware of the corporate culture that entrusts even them with work, and they endeavor to fulfill those responsibilities.

Use of e-learning for all types of training and instruction

Kyorin has introduced an e-learning system using the Internet to permit its MRs to study and learn anywhere and anytime at their own pace. A range of programs are offered, starting with the course for MR Certification Exams commencing immediately after joining the company, and including the ongoing instruction programs to be taken thereafter such as special courses to acquire greater knowledge about diseases, and a monthly training course. In addition, the company also devotes considerable efforts to on-the-job training, internal study sessions to which specialist physicians are invited, and practical training.
