Introduction
The Kyorin Group’s corporate philosophy states: “Kyorin continues to fulfill its mission of cherishing life and benefiting society by contributing to better health.” At the same time, we aim to be a company that contributes broadly to people’s health by comprehensively developing healthcare-related businesses, with a core focus on the new drugs business, which continuously provides high-value new drugs that meet medical needs.
To realize this management philosophy, the Group has established the Charter of Corporate Conduct and is committed to conducting business in a way that respects the human rights of all people. Furthermore, to fulfill our responsibility to respect human rights in our corporate activities, we have established the Kyorin Group Human Rights Policy (hereinafter, “this Policy”). This Policy clarifies the responsibility to respect human rights that the Group must fulfill in its business activities and sets forth our commitment to putting this into practice.
1. Basic Approach
In conducting its business activities, the Group will comply with all applicable laws and regulations related to human rights. We will also support and respect international norms related to human rights, including the International Bill of Human Rights (the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenants on Human Rights) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.
In our pharmaceutical research and development activities, we will respect the human rights of patients and trial subjects with high ethical standards, in accordance with the Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects (Declaration of Helsinki).
2. Scope of Application
This Policy applies to all officers and employees of the Group. We also expect all business partners and relevant stakeholders to understand and support this Policy.
3. Responsibility to Respect Human Rights
The Group recognizes that its business activities may, directly or indirectly, have a negative impact on human rights. We will fulfill our responsibility to respect human rights by adhering to the following:
- Ensuring that the human rights of individuals affected by the Group’s business activities are not violated
- If it becomes clear that the Group has caused or contributed to a negative impact on human rights through its business activities, we will take appropriate steps to remedy the situation.
4. Education and Training
The Group will provide education and training to all officers and employees to ensure that this Policy is integrated into its business activities and implemented effectively.
5. Human Rights Due Diligence
The Group will conduct human rights due diligence in accordance with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Through this process, we will identify any negative impacts on human rights related to our business activities and strive to prevent or mitigate such impacts.
6. Remediation
If it becomes clear that the Group has caused or contributed to a negative impact on human rights through its business activities, we will work toward providing remediation through appropriate procedures.
7. Dialogue and Consultation with Stakeholders
In the process of implementing this Policy, the Group will engage in dialogue and consultation with relevant stakeholders.
8. Compliance with Applicable Laws and Regulations
The Group will comply with the laws and regulations of each country or region where it operates and will strive to respect international human rights principles to the fullest extent possible.
9. Information Disclosure
The Group will disclose its initiatives regarding respect for human rights through its website and other appropriate channels.
Establishment, Revision, and Abolition
The establishment, revision, or abolition of this Policy will be subject to a resolution by the Board of Directors.
